Unreal Engine 5.1 will improve Nanite and Lumen and try to fix stuttering when compiling shaders
Epic Games has detailed the key features of the new version of Unreal Engine 5, Unreal Engine 5.1. According to the development team, Unreal Engine 5.1 will bring numerous improvements to Nanite and Lumen. In addition, it will attempt to fix the annoying shader compilation hangs we've seen in many Unreal Engine 4 games.
As Epic Games explained:
We hope that Automated PSO Gathering solves the hang issues shaders we've reported on in the past. In theory, both STALKER 2 and Hellblade 2 will not use this new version of UE5. Therefore, they will not be able to use this feature. After all, both of these games are already in development, and it is not known when Unreal Engine 5.1 will be released. So yes, we can assume that there will be stuttering in both of these two games.
As for Nanite, Unreal Engine 5.1 will add a programmable rasterization framework. Epic says this will open the door to features like masked materials, double-sided foliage, pixel depth shifting, and world position shifting.
Finally, Lumen will get performance optimizations in high scalability mode. The goal here is to get Lumen High to hit 60fps on current generation consoles. In addition, it will have improved foliage support.
