Users were able to access the source code of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
In June 2021, there was a huge leak regarding the source code of CD Projekt RED games. However, there was one catch. The source code archives were protected by passwords, which meant that most of what came into the hands of users could not be unpacked. Until now.
Yesterday, an unknown user published passwords to the archives. The DSO Gaming portal has already confirmed that the passwords turned out to be real and now the source code of such games as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (both the original version and the RTX version), Gwent and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales has become available to users.
Considering that The Witcher 3 will soon also receive support for the REDKit toolkit, this opens up enormous opportunities for modders - if they have the tools and source code, they will be able to completely modernize any aspect of the game. The game was already very popular among the modding community, but it will probably now find a new life and may receive very large-scale mods in the future.
The leak is unlikely to cause any serious damage to the CD Projekt RED studio, given that that the company has officially decided to abandon its own engine in favor of Unreal Engine 5 in future projects.
