Disney investor criticizes movies starring women
American billionaire Nelson Peltz criticized Disney management for its approach to making films. The hedge fund he founded, Trian Partners, owns shares in the company worth about $3.5 billion. The investor is now fighting for seats on the board of directors.
In an interview with The Financial Times, Peltz questioned the strategy of Marvel head Kevin Feige and CEO Disney director Bob Iger. The shareholder mentioned the films "Captain Marvel 2" and "Black Panther", hinting that they were "ruined" by the creators' desire for inclusivity.
At the end of February 2024, it became known that Disney blamed "sexist viewers" for the failure of recent films. According to the company's top managers, viewers unreasonably criticize superhero films only because the main characters in them are women.
In March 2024, insider Daniel Richtman said that Marvel would not make a sequel " Captain Marvel", "Ant-Man" and "Eternals", as the latter parts of these series received negative reviews. The company wants to focus on proven formulas for success.
