The film "American Society of Negro Wizards" failed at the box office
The recently released comedy film "American Society of Negro Wizards" (The American Society of Magical Negroes) had a disappointing debut weekend at the box office.
The Focus Features film finished No. 9 at the box office last weekend, grossing just $1,304,270 from an opening of 1,147 in US cinemas.
The film centers on a young man who is recruited into a “society” where blacks use their magical powers to make whites feel comfortable and not abuse blacks.
p>In the trailer, protagonist Aren, played by Justice Smith, learns that he must put the needs of white people before his own in order for the secret society to maintain its magical powers.
"White people when they feel uncomfortable is the most dangerous animal on the planet,” David Alan Grier’s character explains to Arena.
Apparently, most viewers were not very comfortable with such statements, and they simply decided not to go to the cinema to see this film.
