Difficult battles and new modes: Final Fantasy will receive a massive content update

Japanese game development campaign Square Enix has detailed when the next major update for Final Fantasy XIV will be released. And so, patch 5.4 called Futures Rewritten will be released in early December and will introduce a lot of additional content for the Shadowbringers expansion.

Among other things, patch 5.4 will add new main scenario missions. As Square Enix describes:

After the grand conclusion of the Shadowbringers story in patch 5.3, players will embark on a new adventure in the December update.

The patch will also introduce the third installment in the Eden raid series, as well as the next chapter in the Sorrow of Werlyt quest chain. In addition, with patch 5.4, the Emerald Weapon will appear in Final Fantasy XIV. Players will be able to challenge both in normal and extreme conditions. There will also be a new dungeon which will be part of the new main storyline. On top of that, the patch will introduce a new Unreal trial and a new Explorer mode that allows you to travel through dungeons.

• Other changes coming in patch 5.4: violins will be added to the range of playable instruments;
• Mission Blue Mage will receive many improvements, including an increased level cap;
• Triple Triad mini-game gets revised match rules and new time-limited tournaments; 

In the meantime, patch 5.35 will be released next week on October 13th. This update will bring its own assortment of new content to the game, including the next chapter in the Rescue the Queen questline; and new combat content on the Southern Front of Bozhyan. 

In addition to the new content updates, Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV will be backwards compatible with PS5 and will receive some improvements on the new console. According to the publisher, the game will load much faster on PS5 and players will be able to use the PS4 Pro display settings when playing it on PS5.
